The Program for supporting foster families and child development which is set in the settlement of Chento today supports 14 SOS families and 67 children without parents and parental care, through its own multidisciplinary team comprised of social workers, psychologists, pedagogues, and an administrative and logistic team. Each family functions with the support of one foster parent, or with the support of a married couple of foster parents, who live in a family house and they provide 24-hour care for a maximum of 5 children without parents and parental care.
Through the support provided to the foster parents, the children are provided with a healthy and secure environment and a loving home, love, care, and opportunities for personal growth and development.
The children are also supported through the provided psycho-social support, educational support, inclusion in sports activities, cultural manifestations, creative workshops, excursions and summer camps, where they can better integrate themselves as part of the community and they can develop their maximum potential. Furthermore, we shall take special care of the relations with their biological parents, or their close relatives, thus allowing continuity in the contacts and the meetings with them, if this has a positive effect on the development of the children.
The program of SOS Children’s village persists and functions with close cooperation with other organisations and partners who work in the field of child care and protection, however, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the Institute for Social Activities and the Centers for social protection are key strategic partners and the admission of children is carried out through them.
