Education is a basic human right and it is compulsory to provide access to quality education for every child. The readiness of children to learn, as well as their ability to realize their full potential, are first achieved in a family where they feel safe, cared for and loved. Almost 28 000 children in Macedonia have lost or are exposed to the risk of losing their “first teacher” –their parents (source: Institute for social activities). These children and young people are often deprived of а stable, caring and stimulative environment which is essential for their development during early childhood. Furthermore, they also need additional education and training so they can be better prepared for the labor market. One of the main tasks of the SOS Children’s village in Macedonia consists of providing high quality education to children in order to develop their full capacities.
