SOS Children’s village advocates the rights of children without parents and parental care and children at risk of losing it, by realizing projects and initiatives for independent advocacy or advocacy in partnership with other organizations. The aim of our activities is to provide support to children and their families so that they can improve their living conditions and cope with the main risks which endanger their welfare. It is important to us that children and young people are heard and that they have the opportunity to defend their own rights. Our work is in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and it is based on the principles stated in the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children. Internationally, SOS Children’s village International has actively participated in the development of the Guidelines for the Alternative Care of Children adopted by the Organization of the United Nations in 2009.
